Playing piano: Gloria Gaynor – I will survive

This blog represents all of my interests, but one thing I didn’t have a chance to tell you aboutΒ  is that I play piano. I finished the music school, but last years of the school were so frustrating and exhausting that for several years I didn’t come anywhere close to the piano. Piano then moved from my room to the living room and stood there for years waiting for me to re-discover it.

My love for playing piano visited me again while I was studying in US. I discovered there a store with sheet music of so many of my favorite songs and I realized that I’m not forced to play etudes and gamut anymore which were mandatory in music school and I’m absolutely free to play what I want and how I want.

With the internet and so many opportunities to find sheet music and piano tutorials, my love for playing piano grew even stronger. My recent discovery is Chromatik app, which deserves a separate post. App owners add new sheet music every day and it’s available to learn and play for 7 days. Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I will survive’ was one of the recent additions in the app. I love the song and the attitude of being strong and standing up for yourself. I can’t add the sheet music from the app because of copyright. However, while looking through different videos of piano arrangements, I found a video with most beautiful arrangement by Pippo72 that absolutely stole my heart. And the author generously shared the sheet music of his arrangement. I contacted the author and he kindly agreed to let me share the sheet music and video with you.

I’m still learning to play this piece, but once done I hope to add the video of me playing and maybe I will start adding my own videos on YouTube and become vlogger too! πŸ™‚

  1. ooh that’s soo cool that you know how to play the Piano, and it’s good that you’re free to play whatever piece you wish now without the constraints put on you by music school πŸ˜›

  2. Playing piano is a wonderful thing. I used to learn it to but I haven’t got a piano so I haven’t played for years. Well I wasn’t that good anyway. Gloria has great songs and this is a classic. My favourite from her is I am what I am….

    • Did you ever think of owning a keyboard? I think it’s much more affordable than a piano and doesn’t take up as much space. I’m not a great musician either πŸ™‚ I’m pretty sure that my teacher would kill me if she heard me play πŸ˜€ but I just do it for my soul, it feels wonderful and people who can’t play piano think I’m awesome πŸ™‚
Yes, I love Gloria. She has wonderful voice and she know how to use it πŸ™‚ and thank you for telling me about ‘I am what I am’. I didn’t hear it before and it’s so lovely and I love the lyrics! πŸ™‚

      • I actually have a keyboard in the attic and no space to put it anywhere, I do play guitar and the guitar fits easier in the corner.
Yes I also love those lyrics and I made it my song when I was 23. Then after my divorce 5 years ago I made “I will survive” my special song… and I did survive! Yay πŸ™‚

  3. Gloria Gaynor’s music is so powerful. It helped propel me out of NM and to NY in the late 70’s. Good for you for re-discovering your joy in piano.

    • Why, thank you so much for your sweet words! I’m really glad that the song was a stepping stone for changes in your life, hopefully positive ones! πŸ™‚ have a great day!
